Queue & token display

Run the live token queue at the desk, and put a waiting-room TV board up in minutes.

The live queue

Clinical → Queue shows every doctor as its own card: who's Now serving, who's Up next, and how many are Waiting. Cards update as appointments move through Booked → Checked in → In consultation → Completed.

  • Waiting, In room and Done today are summarised at the top as live counts.
  • A patient marked as unbilled after their consult finishes shows an amber Unbilled badge, and a banner offers Collect now if any visits still need billing.
  • Hovering a waiting patient reveals an X to mark them as a no-show, skipping them without deleting the appointment.

Calling the next token

Each doctor's card has a Call next button. Clicking it completes whoever that doctor currently has in the room and calls the next waiting patient into consultation — one click covers both steps.

Note

Call next is disabled once a doctor has no one waiting.

The TV / waiting-room token board

Queue → Display is a full-screen, auto-updating board built to run on a TV in the waiting room — large token numbers, a Now serving / Up next layout per doctor, and a live clock. It refreshes itself continuously (via live push where available, or fast polling as a fallback) so nobody at the desk has to touch it once it's running.

Heads up

The board needs the queue.tv_display plan entitlement. On a plan without it, the board shows "This clinic's plan doesn't include the TV queue board" instead of the queue.

The access code

The board is public (no staff login on the TV) but protected by a per-clinic access code baked into the link, so the queue can't be viewed just by guessing the clinic's URL slug.

  1. 1Go to Queue and click TV setup.
  2. 2A QR code, the numeric/letter Access code, and the full board URL are shown.
  3. 3On the TV's browser, either scan the QR code or type the URL and enter the access code, or simply open the Display link shown in the TV setup dialog.
  4. 4Leave the tab open — the board stays live and refreshes on its own.
Tip

If the code ever leaks or you want to shut off an old TV, click Regenerate code in TV setup. This immediately invalidates the old link — any screen still open on it will start showing the access-code-required message until reopened with the new link.

Reading the board

  • Each doctor gets a tile: name, room (if set), a Serving / Available status pill, the current token in large type, and up to 3 upcoming tokens under Up next.
  • If more doctors are configured than fit on one screen, the board rotates between pages automatically, with dots at the bottom showing progress.
  • "0 waiting" for a doctor shows as No one waiting in the Up next list — that doctor's queue is simply empty right now, not broken.
  • When there are no appointments at all for the day, the board shows a friendly "Queue will begin shortly" message instead of empty tiles.
The board says "Access code required".

Open Queue → Display in the staff app (not a bookmarked TV link) and use TV setup to get the current QR code or URL — the access code rotates if someone clicks Regenerate code.

The board is blank / shows no doctors.

Doctors need at least one appointment today to appear on the board. If the clinic genuinely has no appointments yet, the board correctly shows "Queue will begin shortly."

Can I use the board without a TV?

Yes — it's just a web page, so any large screen or monitor with a browser works, as long as it can reach the board URL.

Why did the board suddenly stop updating on the TV?

Most likely someone clicked Regenerate code from the staff Queue page — reopen the board from Queue → Display / TV setup to get the current link.
