Billing & invoices
Raise invoices, understand GST and exempt supplies, collect payment by cash, UPI or card, and download the GST tax invoice.
Where invoices come from
Most invoices are raised automatically when a visit is checked out — the consultation, any procedures, lab tests and pharmacy items on that visit all roll into one bill. Go to Billing & Invoices to see every invoice, or open Billing → Unbilled visits to find visits that were checked out but still have money outstanding.
For a charge that isn't tied to a visit — a certificate, a walk-in dressing — use New invoice on the Billing page instead. Pick the patient, add one or more line items (a service from your catalogue, or an ad-hoc typed charge with its own amount), and the total updates live as you build it.
GST, and why consultations show 'Exempt'
Ayunila prices every line item with the correct Indian healthcare GST treatment — it is never a single flat rate applied to the whole bill. Consultations, diagnosis and other core healthcare services are GST-exempt supplies by law, so they always appear on the invoice as "Exempt supplies" with no tax charged, no matter what your clinic's standard GST rate is. Procedures, lab tests and medicines each carry their own slab — a procedure can be exempt, standard-rated or a custom rate depending on how it's set up in Settings → Services & pricing; medicines carry their own 5/12/18% slab from the pharmacy catalogue.
This isn't a workaround — it's the correct tax treatment. An invoice that mixed exempt and taxable lines shows both: an "Exempt supplies" row for the consultation and a separate GST row for anything taxable, so the totals stay compliant.
Collecting a payment
Open an unpaid or partially paid invoice and use the Collect payment panel at the top. Choose Cash, UPI or Card, then record it.
- 1Open the invoice from the Billing & Invoices list.
- 2In Collect payment, pick the method — Cash, UPI or Card.
- 3For Cash or Card, tap Mark paid to record the full balance as collected.
- 4For UPI, tap Show UPI QR — the patient scans it on their phone, then you tap Confirm received & mark paid once it shows as received.
- 5The invoice status flips to Paid and shows "Paid via <method> · <date>" next to the total.
The UPI QR carries the exact outstanding balance, not the invoice total — so a part-paid invoice still generates a correct QR for what's left.
Send payment link
Instead of collecting in person, tap Send payment link on the invoice to WhatsApp the patient a link to pay online (needs the online-payments add-on). A part-paid invoice can't have a link sent — collect the remaining balance at the counter instead, since a gateway link is always for the full invoice total.
Download PDF vs Print A4
- Download PDF — generates a full GST tax invoice as a PDF, with HSN/SAC codes and the CGST/SGST/IGST breakup per line, ready to email or store.
- Print A4 — prints the on-screen invoice document directly from the browser, useful for a quick counter printout without downloading a file.
FAQ
It means that line is a GST-exempt healthcare supply under Indian tax law — consultations always are — so zero tax is charged on it. It is not an error and not something you can turn off for a consultation line.
Your clinic doesn't have a UPI ID set yet. Add one in Settings, then the QR will generate automatically the next time you choose UPI as the payment method.
Only if it's unpaid and not tied to a visit's bill. A paid invoice can't be deleted, and a visit's invoice can't be deleted either — raise a credit note instead so the visit still points at a real bill.
The price and GST on every line are computed by the same tax engine that prices the final invoice, so what you see while building the invoice already matches what gets charged — check the discount field if the number still looks off, since a discount only reduces the taxable portion.
